Netball Games (Thursday, August 28th)

Sports at James Cook University last for approximately two weeks, not counting the time put into training for them. Incase I haven’t explained before, there are not nearby universities around, so the different colleges (dorms) on campus compete against each other. There is a sport called Netball, which is somewhat similar to basketball. There is a net, although there is not a backboard. There are 7 players from each team on the court, and they all have specific positions. To clarify who is which position, they must wear a jersey, stating their position. This is necessary because depending on the position, you are only allowed on certain parts of the court. So to play the game, the center position begins with the ball. He is unable to move and he must pass the ball to one of his teammates. When they catch the ball, they cannot move either. So whoever has the ball, is unable to move. You are allowed to pivot, but you cannot take any steps. The point of the game is to pass the ball to the other side of the court, and have your player score in the net. Uni Hall played great games. They made it to the semi-finals, and lost with a score of 14-11 to George Roberts. The game was very intense and kept going back and forth. Even though we lost, it was still a great time getting to watch and cheer on Uni Hall.
